Searches for what peptides cost have grown more than 800% year on year, and the honest answer is that the range is enormous — from well under a dollar per milligram to over twenty. The variation is not arbitrary. Understanding what drives it is what lets you tell a good price from a warning sign.

Sequence length is the dominant factor. Solid-phase peptide synthesis adds one residue at a time, and each coupling step has a yield below 100%. Those yields compound. A tripeptide like GHK is close to trivial to make; a 43-residue sequence like TB-500 requires dozens of sequential couplings, and the cumulative yield loss is what you are paying for. This is most of why GHK-Cu costs under a dollar per milligram and TB-500 costs six.
Structural complexity multiplies it. Non-standard residues, D-amino acids, cyclisation, disulfide bridges and fatty acid conjugation each add synthesis steps and purification difficulty. The incretin analogues are expensive not only for their length but because the lipidation chemistry — conjugating a fatty diacid through a gamma-glutamate/AEEA linker at a specific lysine — is genuinely demanding to do cleanly.
Purification is a real cost. Getting crude peptide from roughly 70% to above 99% requires preparative HPLC and discards material at every pass. The difference between 95% and 99% purity is not a rounding difference in cost; it is often a substantial fraction of the price.

How to compare vendors honestly
