How to read an HPLC chromatogram

The chromatogram plots detector response against retention time. Your target compound is the dominant peak; its area as a percentage of total integrated peak area is the reported purity figure. What matters as much as the headline number is the shape of the baseline: a clean trace with one sharp, symmetrical peak indicates well-resolved material, while a cluster of small satellite peaks around the main peak usually means truncated or deletion sequences from incomplete synthesis.

Check the mass spectrometry section too. Purity tells you how much of the sample is one substance; mass spectrometry tells you whether that substance is the one on the label. A certificate reporting high purity without an identity confirmation is only answering half the question.

Batch numbering

Batch numbers follow the format VP-XX-YYMMDD, where XX is the compound code and YYMMDD is the release date. The number on the vial is the number on the certificate. If they do not match, contact us — we will replace the order and investigate the lot.
